The tiny North Yorkshire hamlet of Fremington, along with its near neighbours Reeth and Grinton, is situated in the beautiful countryside of the Yorkshire Dales. It is located due west of Richmond and due north of Castle Bolton, and despite being tiny it is divided into Low Fremington and High Fremington. The hamlet is steeped in history and is recorded as Fremington in the 1086 Domesday Book. It first held races in early 1732 and, such was the success of the meeting that it continued to organise meetings for the next 8 years. Although the meetings were widely advertised in the Newcastle Courant, with extracts shown below, the same newspaper did not include results from the meeting. The final record of a 2 day meeting was on Monday 7th and Tuesday 8th April 1740.
